LOU, the tire of choice seems to be Bridgestone, they are an excellent tire and come in many tread paterns. the front steer tire that they make is the best as they will give you the control and ride that takes the roll and sway out that other tirees give such as the import tires. myself i would not run on anything else except a Bridgestone on the front not only for those reasons but safty to as when asking the truckeers what they run the most of them say the same as do the bus comanys except those that get a cheper lease some where else as Bridgestone are not cheap but rember you get what you pay for and at 65 miles an hour and a front tire blows because you got a cheaper tire hopfully you will live to re thing about the money you saved. |

It seems as if tire and battery questions are perennial questions that keep coming up. IMHO, the kind of tire and battery you choose to purchase depends more upon your pocketbook and planned use than anything else. Mel suggests the only tire to purchase is made by Bridgestone. I am not going to dispute him since it is his opinion. On a limited budget and a planned use of only a few K miles over the next five or six years, I would not be going out and purchasing the best (read that $$$) tires that money can buy. IHC likes the Hankook tire so well it has become their OEM tire. Kumho tires have earned a pretty good reputation as well. I have had very good luck with Cooper tires. I have also had very good service out of used tires. It makes no sense to spend lots of $$$ on premium tires if they end up rotting on the rims long before you ever come close to wearing them out. If a Bridgestone can go twice the miles of a less expensive tire you have to ask yourself if it is worth the extra $$$ for the Bridgestone if it rots off long before you have used even half of the life of the tire. When you finally do decide which tire to mount on your vehicle, for sure have the tire balanced. It is well worth the few extra $$$. When you are paying in excess of $300.00 per tire why quibble over another $10-15.00? Also, save out your two best tires and put them on the tags. Putting new tires on a set of tags is best left to those who have more dollars than sense. You will also get many different opinions when it comes to using re-caps. On school buses where the speeds are generally low, the miles are very few in a day, and the fenders are large and made from steel I dont' think re-caps are a bad choice. On a coach where speeds are generally fast, the miles are a lot in a day, and the fenders are not very large and are made from plastic I don't think re-caps are a good choice. Again, this is just one man's opinion. Good luck. Mark O. P.S. In over thirty years of driving professionally, the only steer tire I have ever lost was a Bridgestone/Firestone. MRO |

I agree with Mark, it doesn't make a lot of difference what tire you use, most are good. I just bought two new steer Toyos and made a 63000 mi trip immediately after, very nice running and have put 4000 more on them since. The price is right too since they are a very popular truck tire in this area. No sense spending big dollars on a tire that sits most of the time unless you just want bragging rights.. Most tires now are imports, nothing wrong with imports, they may even be better. Bridgestones are imports. The only tire I would never buy is Firestone, I've had bad luck on every Firestone I ever had. |

I bought Goodyear G670RV Radials for my MC9 since they are designed to last longer under occasional use and have a 7 year weathering life. Expensive yes but made to withstand sitting idle in the sun, wind and rain longer. Mine are 315/80R 22.5's. Now I just need 6 more to make a whole set which I hope to do soon. |

to clear up what i tryed to say was that i use Bridgestone steer tires as i like the ride and the way the front of the bus handles on corners with very little sway, of course i am driving a 4104 so it is never a big problem. and as to saving i use recaps on the rear and they have been recaps on there every since she became a motorhome 27 years ago and have never had any trouble back there. yes there are some other tires out there that may be good but i had Toyo no my pickup once but do not go there again or yokohama , but there again that is the way i run and every one should make there own choice. |

I made a pretty big typo in my last post, the trip was 6300 miles not 63000!! |

Kellys, Hankooks, or Coopers on the steers, Bandags on the drives (they make a heavily-spied rib tire that'd probably work well...I've seen a few coaches with them), and either Bandags or the 2 best old ones on the tag. On mine, I run (used) Goodyears on the steer, & Bandags on the drive. |

thanks guys on the tires but the tire place {park house} told me that they don't balance the the duals on the rear becuse they will vibrate. they only balance the front and the tag. |
