I am converting a 1977 MC8. My problem is with the original 24 volt charging system It has a 24v, neg. ground, gear driven alt. When the motor (8V71) is running the lights pulsate, (clearance, headlight, etc.) and when the batteries are fully charged the “nogen” light flashes on and off. If I turn on a high power draw, the light will go off until the batteries are up again. I have tried three different rebuilt regulators, with no success. Any ideas or suggestions? |

Joe You either have a bad diode in you rectifier or a bad winding in your stator. First thing I would do is check the battery condition ie. have it tested with at least a 200amp load tester any shop with a VAT 680 or better could do this with minimal fuss. I doubt if the regulator would be to blame. Good luck! |

HI Joe.. I had a similar problem with my 12 volt part of my 24/12 volt system... what I found was on the alt. terminal there were 2 nuts, one above the wire terminal and one below..what I did was remove the one above the wire terminal, remove the wire and found the one below the terminal was loose, I tightened the second nut and replaced the wire terminal, replaced the top nut tightened it an no more problems.... if you try (slowly & softly) to move the wire on the terminal at the alt. and it moves most likely that is the problem.... the second nut (bottom) tightens the connection inside the alt....... Just a thought ???? |

Ask for Gene Rochester's help! He is a whiz when it comes to these sort of things and he can help you over the landline if you so desire. Sort of like a house call... no pun intended! LOL A&$ |
