THANKS DAVE!!!! The pictures answer a few questions I had! I'd like to know more. The structure seems to be better than I had expected & the body is mostly straight (well, I am talking about a 51 year old bus). Here is what it looked like yesterday morning as we were 'East bound & down, loaded up & trucking.....'

As big as it looks in the first pic, check out how small they really are compared to modern rigs. Nice lines. There were some nice ones in Arcadia last time we were at Jacks party. Good luck. |

The rest of the evolving pictures that I had on it are available in a 44 meg download file. http://www.rvbus.net/4501-598.zip It shows the engine in and out and all the other stuff and probably a lot of worthless pictures too. I think they also show the transmission that I was attemting to install but found out the transmission wouldn't fit the back of the engine due to needing a spacer that wasn't available. I installed a 14" dual-disc ceramic clutch (setup for the tranny as a pull-type )A rebuilt 9 speed transmission and modified the shift slides up front for a wiggle shift ( fore-aft & side/side ) and built a slider adapter for the tranny cover. Word had it that the bus would run at 80 mph and get there fast. I ran at about 65 on the way home but it was a short run. It steered very good. The brake cans (parking) that were on the tags were removed to make room for the larger transmission but the feed line is still there on the upper left (from front) bulkhead over the tag axle. I had replaced a whole section of the drivers side air beam just before it left Florida. I had a lot of time and investment in it but it was going to be too much for me to handle after I got sick again. Anyway, Enjoy.... |

If I do nothing else, I will enjoy this project. I have no time line, my wife likes it, the kids think it's cool, & the neighbors are wondering just what in the world I am bringing home next..... Yes, life is good! She aired up nicely in Atlanta, well after plugging a few loose air lines in the drivers area. The driver's side windshield is missing & it looks like it's been open to the rain for way too long - the pedals are stuck & everything is badly corroded. It all would need to be re-done anyway! Thanks for the 411 on her. it clears up a bit of misinformation I have been getting. Yes the bus does look small, but it isn't that small. The perspective just makes it look that way. 40 feet long x 8 feet wide x 11 feet tall sure seems alot bigger when you park it. |
