Took our "new" 4104 to the races in Michigan last week. Chicago was a joy as usual probably need new clutch in return for the $1.15 toll we paid. Ran good for the most part good mpg 9.55 on the way out and 11.01 on return trip. Couple of questions my radiator is worn on the fan side but looks good road side, had to run misters I feel alot--100 gals water 600 miles--84 degrees and only running 60-65mph, is this alot and most likely the cause? Anyone have a good radiator for reasonable $$$ ? Anyone have maintenance manuals for a 4104? Need to see if I have any adjustments I can make to the clutch, linkage, etc...before going to the shop. Also the better half says my converted '70 fishbowl must go, I can't have a fleet if anyone is interested.

You can get a manual on ebay or;
http://www.coachinfo.com/Manuals/Coach/GMC/4103.html
I don't see how you can do very much without one. The clutch adjustment is very important and a lengthy process. I can send you copies of the pages but you still need the manual.

The parts book is probably just as important too because it shows exploded drawings of many parts.

You shouldn't need misters. Are your shutters still installed and, if so, are they open? My 4104 runs cold if I don't close the shutters and it is by no means a cream puff.

There are no shutters just an expanded metal cover and an air scoop at the rear. I've wondered about that scoop... I think it disrupts the air flow instead of diverting it in, but thats just my guess. I have the parts book and diesel engine maintenance manual, the only manual on ebay right now is a copy on cd, I'll have to keep watching or check out the link you added. I like to have the pics right there when I'm wrenching.

That air scoop is probably part of the problem. It appears that a PO had an overheating problem and added the scoop. With my modest understanding of aerodynamics I would guess that the scoop speeds up the air across the radiator front. The bus was designed to provide ample air into that radiator intake without a scoop. It wouldn't hurt to remove it temporarily to see what happens.

It is probably the thermostat or water pump or just a partially clogged radiator. As I said, mine runs cold without the shutters closed at least part way but I don't know what might have been done to it before I got it.

Do you have a shroud around the fan? That makes a big difference.

I got my reprint manuals on ebay from a guy in Canada. Unfortunately I no longer have his address.

Hereare two other old links I found; http://www.coachinfo.com/Manuals/Coach/GMC/4103.html

I did go out and look after your last post and the rear portion of the shroud is gone which I'm sure isn't helping matters. i haven't checked t-stat yet. Thanks for the info

I ordered my Manuals from MCI, they had it in stock(reprint) a few years ago. Also had mufflers but, I am sorry to say, no tail pipes.

Doug, I have a Parts Manual and a Maintaince Manual Supplement for sale. Email me at dodgedesig at aol dot com with a reasonable offer if interested. I do not have the full Maintaince Manual, this is a supplement to it. These are books, not CD's.

Thanks John, But I've found the guy in Canada that Gus suggested. Now if I can get in contact with him again he sells the reprint of the maintenance manual for around 40.00
