Been working on the new web site and marketing Ideas. I thought it would be fun and draw a lot of hits to my site if I had a way for people to trace my travels and also see that I am close enuff for you to visit, see my show or book me on a roughting deal. is this feasable and possible? I know a few of you will say why? and I know the downfalls to doing this but I would like to do it any how. gps |

You're not permitted to commercialize the broadcasts with ads, but Amateur Radio ops have been doing it for years using the APRS system. The ham ticket (license) is so easy to get, you'd wonder why you didn't get one before.. You'd need a GPS, a small ham band transceiver, and a device we call a "terminal node controller" or TNC. Some new radios have it built-in, and all you do is connect the GPS to it... APRS There are APRS maps accessible on the Internet, to allow any user (ham or not), to see where you are at any given time. One APRS map example Give it some thought... The benefits of having a ham license and equipment to use during any "blackout", can far outweigh any time it takes to get on board! Cheers. |

Ron - it is just as John says. My brother in law does long (several day) bicucle rides and races... he broadcasts on APRS all the time. Rather neat. You would need a little code on your website to digest this APRS info and stick it in your website. If you want a semi-automatic approach, get a GPS that is connected to your PC and logs your location periodiclly. You can then scoop up the file and upload to your website when online. This too would take a little code to do. Since you are wanting to snag some opportunistic bookings based upon your travel plans, you might want to think of a way to display your forecasted route with a moving indicator of where you actually are... maybe something with google maps?
