I have a MC8 with 4 speed manual trans, and 8V71
engine, could any of you out there tell me what type of fluids are used in the tranny, and power steering. Thanks to all |

I can tell you that my Eagle 4 speed manual trans. uses 40 wt. motor oil & I think the power steering should use the same, this is in my Eagle book, this comes up often, & everybody wants to argue about it,the only thing that uses 90 wt is the rear end |

The power steering thing comes up frequently.
Be sure and check the color of your PS fluid.
If it's red...it's Dexron auto trans fluid (GM automotive).
If it's brown, it's motor oil..40wt.
The two fluids don't mix. You'll want to be certain of what you have before adding fluids. The top comes off the res easily..if you cannot see the fluid in the res window, take off the top of the res and sample your fluid.
Both fluids are used, and both work well...just don't mix.

You need to get the absolutely correct info on the 4 sp. Older GMs with Spicer 4 sp like my 4104 use 50W mineral oil because they have an oil pump. Lots of people don't believe this but I have some heavy '50s GM trucks that have the same trans and also use 50W. These trans do not like 90W and it would probably be a disaster in very cold weather.
I have no idea what 4 sp your MC8 has but you need to make sure. |
