Hi folks, Starting today, the only people who are permitted to leave messages on this bulletin board are Registered Members. Viewing messages is available to the general public, as always. For those very few stragglers out there, please take a moment to register with us. It only takes a moment and there is no longer any reason not to. Just a word of explanation as to why this has now happened: I was getting about 300 messages a day in the queue that I put in place so that garbage wouldn't sift through to the board, leaving me to clean up hundreds of messages as once happened this past summer. 300 was the average... one day I got 1,500. This has nothing to do with the persons using this board - this has only to do with robots hitting the site with unwanted messages, usually of a pornographic nature. Anyhoo, now you won't see any spam (until the robots are programmed to register first!) and my server will no longer take the hit in re-sending messages to over a thousand people for each message generated. Also, on a personal level, I no longer have to sort through hundreds of messages in the queue to find the legitimate messages, now that I can shut down that feature altogether. Ian, Great job, man. Thanks for trying to keep SPAM as a low budget lunch meat and not the massive annoyance it has become to legitimate net users. Ian, Thanks for this forum and your diligent fight against spam. May I offer another feature you may add to help prevent spam for the registered uses? We all would like to have each others email addresses but posting them in our profile just buys us more spam. could you make our profiles unviewable by unregistered guests or a seperate area that you can only access by a password with our contact info? just a sugestion | ||
