It is not recommended to use ANY oil supplenent in two cycle detroit diesels, just the straight 40 weight oil with the proper rating.BTW you engine will normally use oil due to it's design. The guys here can give you and idea what it'll use in a 1000 miles. Oh, and some of that will be leaks. Don't lug the engine, overheat it, or over rev it and it will last a long time unless it is already worn out.

Bernie use oil made for diesel engines use a single grade, and the main thing to watch for is read to see how much ash content the oil contains, good oil has less than 1% ash in it........ash or carbon is what kills 2 stroke diesels.......builds up around the valves and and behind the rings increasing cylinder wear and shortens the life of the engine! Another thing about 2 strokes is don't let them sit and idle!.............I hope this helps!

I use Lucas Oil additive and Slick 50 in all my diesels. Wouldn't run without it in my Detroit.

I also run 40 wt Oil Rated for Detroits.

24 psi at idle and 54 psi at 65 mph.

Leaking is not the issue. Lubrication on hard runs and cold starts are my reasons. Even saved a severely overheated Isuzu engine for me.

Besides I run some veggie mix and prefer to have a little extra insurance against the cleaning action on the rings.

I won't leave home without it.. Personal Opinion !

Dave. Slick 50 is finely ground TEFLON!!!!
Hopefully your filter will filter it out before it plugs your oil galleries by sticking to the walls. FWIW Jim G. - 1979 RTS-II

I would like to add to the previous info on oil additives. There's a product called Velocity Engine Protector,(VelocityWP.com) that works GREAT in 2 strokes.

Steve,
Where is your evidence for this statement?
I looked at every page available and saw nothing that gave any SCIENTIFIC proof of the claims.
And also, Aren't you the 'Marketing director'?

And looking at your profile, your email is Winnerchoiceltd@aol.com

Amazing that the address of the advertising company is:

scapito@winnerschoicecorporation.com

I challenge you to show proof of your statements.
If you can't, then that probably means that you have had no scientific tests run, or the tests that were run didn't support your statements.

In that case, you, sir are lieing.
and subject to fraud charges in my state and in California.

I think I might like to take this one on with my favorite attorney.

my 'cruiser goes through way too much oil for me to use additives in it... but that said, the rear axle oil seals were leaking at lukes, and i ended up dumping 2 gallons of the oil stabilizer into the rear diff, and a gallon into the engine when i couldn't find anything close to the 40wt the 8v-71 takes. getting her home was paramount, and it did the job.

i'm not an expert, but i would be willing to bet that oil technology has evolved since my bus was built.
