We use allstate insurance for liability of our cars and class c. The bus we are picking up is a new ballgame and im checking with allstate for coverage. Any knowledge on Insurance for 4104 1957 would be appreciated. We will use this bus mainly in U.S. and possible trips to mexico and canada. |

My 4104 is covered by USAA which covers all my other vehicles, but they require a military background. Almost any insurance company will insure a motorhome. Don't call it a bus, call it a motorhome when you ask. Your title probably says motorhome so it should be no problem. If it was converted recently tell them the date it was converted before you tell them it is a 1957. If you have had good luck with Allstate they will probably give you the best rate since your other vehicles are insured by them. I wou;dn't use Allstate if it were the last insurance company on earth but that is only my personal opinion. |

I have my 1960 4104 insured through Progressive along with my other vehicles. As I don't carry FULL coverage on my vehicles it only added another $150 per year. Had I wanted FULL coverage (purchase price of $6K) it would have increased my coverage $500 per year. BUT it is very important that you classify it as a motorhome/RV. |

Mine is with state farm. I told them it was a former greyhound bus converted to a motorhome. They required 2 exterior pictures (showing all 4 sides), & interior pictures (showing washroom, beds, & kitchen). No problems to get liability & comprehensive coverage for cheap ~$150/ year. When I'm finished 'remodeling', I'll look into collision. I'm in SC kyle4501 |

Kyle, State Farm told me the same thing...however, underwriters wouldn't write collision/comp when I was ready to put it on the road. State Farm wrote liability with no problem...refused the comp. That was all I bought while purchasing and converting bus. After 40 years of accident free business with State Farm, I moved everything to Farm Bureau. Very reasonable, with home, bus, tractor, and 3 cars the rate is about the same as State Farm prior to the bus. The bus is sorta "free." I have no idea why State Farm underwrites some coaches and not others, but they do. The local agent is a family friend and I don't think he had any idea that the bus wouldn't be underwritten for collision/comp. I we travelled in the mostly completed bus for a year with only liability. Also tried GMAC..per them, paid for an appraisal. Working with GMAC via the internet was akin to suffering fools! They either couldn't find the appraisal that I sent to them, or they couldn't "open" a file..always something. I believe that part of my problem was shopping only the bus...combining the home and cars made the package much more desirable to an insurance company. However, State Farm doesn't do farms or horses, and that's what I happen to live on. Life can be complicated. Good Luck to those looking for insurance, JR |

Dilip, sorry for the multiple posts, but regarding insurance while operating in Mexico, be sure to contact your insurance agent before heading south of the boarder. He will advise you. You'll probably be required to purchase a rider, or additional policy, while driving in Mexico. Depending on your carrier, you may have to buy Mexican supplied auto insurance. JR |

It used to be that you had to buy mexican insurance where you crossed the border, but that was 20 years or mor ago. Your US insurance will definitely not cover you in Mexico. Richard |

Mexico insurance is available online, you HAVe to buy it,& you need to buy it,because your regular insurance is worthless in Mexico, also, the more Mexican language you can speak, the better, when armed federalies stop you & want to know what you are doing,(note) you must NOT have any guns OR amunition, not even ONE 22 bullet rolling around in a drawer |

And they do stop and search your vehicle, especially for guns, and if you have an accident and no insurance they stick you in the pokey. Richard |

If you crash into a police car in Mexico do you just pay them a twenty to forget it? Or is that just in Tijuana. |

I also have USAA (my dad was military). I pay around $198 per year for full coverage for my bus... I mean motorhome. Of course, it helps that my house and other vehicles are all insured by USAA. David |
