I need your input fellas. I am looking at purchasing a coach for conversion, as the prices are very reasonable, except for those 102" widebodies.
Is there that much difference in useable space? Is there a big difference in manuvering a 102 vs. a 96. Is it worth the substantial price premium over a standard width? I realize that your answers are all subjective, but that what I'm asking for.
I want to be able to keep this vehicle for a loooong time, so I don't want to short change myself later on down the road(pun intended).
Thanks in advance. Warmest regards from chilly Florida, Bill.

The 102 wide makes a huge difference in room. It's only 6" but, as a percentage of the width, it's a lot. Opens up a lot of options for furniture, bath area and cabinetry. It makes walking around a queen bed much easier. Also, it will help when it comes time to sell. When selling my 96 wide MC-8, a lot of people were totally turned off when they found it wasn't 102. Driving it is very little different than a 96. Once you get used to it you really won't notice the difference. Over 99% of new busses manufactured are now 102 and they don't have trouble negotiating the highways and streets.

On heavy traffic interstates in northern Ohio my 96" wide wanted to wander from one track to the other of the 102" trucks. Most roads are not that Deeply rutted.

I believe a 96" wide Prevost will sell quicker than a 102" wide MCI. Not that the MCI may not be a better coach, but I believe most buyers that are not converters are Prevost minded. SF

hello I own a 96 wide and just wanted to say that Jim Ashworth is on the money with his comments. I wanted a 102 wide but budget for me afforded a 96 wide. David

The best thing to do is go look and drive both before you buy.

We settled for a 40 ft 102 wide American General
transit that was alerady converted, and we love it.

It has almost a 7 ft ceiling without raising the
roof..

Yes,the 6in difference is a lot in a bus.
IMHO..

Just be careful with the 102's that you don't get in to jurisdictions that prohibit them. Not heavily enforced, but in most states they are outlawed except to Commercial Carriers, and Municipalities. Like I said...not heavily enforced, but Jerry Corscheen got nailed in NC for $1500.00 for being more than 5 miles from the Interstate Hwy. Cheers...JJ
