Sorry to hear of your misfortune Mike. Hopefully they will track them. EBay is definetely a buyer beware venture in my opinion with a high rate of false advertising. I've been stung myself, but fortunately not for large amounts. I consider them cheap learning experiences. I think EBay should beef up their consumer complaint department and put some teeth into it, along with cracking down on the shilling that is going on. |

I could not agree more. However, I have been extremely lucky so far. I did have a near miss over some 55 Chevy parts last week (still looking for front end sheet metal - sorry, off topic.... ). The guy was selling some repop chrome grill surrounds and did not declare himself a dealer. I asked him if the stuff was "perfect" or "seconds" or unused parts he had bought and he about went into it. Told me he was a full blown dealer and that if that was my worry before buying anything, that he "did not want or need my business". He did not sell his chrome to me or anyone, some of these guys have a real attitude problem. Peter. |

Hi Mike, Sorry to hear you got taken on a laptop scam. eBay is just a forum. The people on eBay are like the people you meet anywhere in business or on the street. Most are honest, but some are out to cheat. Others are just jackasses with no business sense. My recommendation to anyone: 1) ALWAYS check the feedback rating before bidding. 2) If it is too good of a deal, something is probably wrong. 3) On high dollar items, use an escrow service. If seller won't do escrow, walk from it. 4) If in doubt refer to number one. I have been buying and selling on eBay for years with nearly a thousand transactions under my belt now. Only been burned once for about 40 bucks. I think it is an amazing forum to find the darndest things you would never be able to find locally. Scott |

An article in our local paper told of a nearby person burnt for $2,500.00. The eBay buyer bought a BIG screen TV and paid with a "cashier's check". Computers, laser printers and decent software created the bogus "certified check." I recently sold my 102A3 and received the requested cashiers check. I called the issuing bank to verify the validity of the check. I didn't want to insult the buyer, but in my defense, I really didn't know him or his bank. All did go well and everyone's a happy camper. With todays technology, you gotta "CYOA" -- it aint personal, just Bizness. Jerry H. |

Jerry, I just received a cashiers check from a buyer and it has a water mark "Printed" on the back and micro printing with the bank's name all around the perimeter of the check. I was in the understanding that neither of these could be faked out with a lazer printer and a computer. It is a bit like the paper money security designs, where the pattern goes funny if you run it through a copier. In England, the money is multicolored and copiers have a hard time with the colors that they put against each other. They screw with the color balance and it won't print right. Peter. |
