Hi All! I am leaving Monday to pick up our new to us 4104 in MI and drive it to California. We were wondering what is involved in getting the title to say MH instead of Commercial here in California. Also, can anyone tell me about the northern route and weather and current conditions from MI to California? PS: I will be traveling with this bus nation wide next year, should I look into any other kind of registration besides California? Thanks Dilip |

you are too evasive on your information, you don't say if the bus is converted, you don't say where in California you are going |

Dilip - Since your 4104 is already converted, all you have to do is pull up to the DMV office there in Chico and have someone walk out with you to take a look at it, as well as verify the VIN. (Or the AAA office, if you're a member.) Make sure you have the bill of sale from the former owner, as well as the registration from MI with you when you visit the DMV, will make things a lot smoother. Two places on the coach for the VIN: On a plaque riveted to the dashboard in the entry stepwell, and inside the exterior tool compartment located underneath the driver, stamped on the "frame rail" (which is actually the vertical wall of the spare tire compartment). The MH designation in CA is a "Housecar" btw. As for the weather, there's always the Weather Channel. If it snows, simply park it until the weather clears. So what if it takes you an extra day or two - better safe and late, eh? If it's snowing when you get to Reno on I-80, just park it in the bus parking lot at any of the casinos and enjoy a good dinner and breakfast buffet 'til the weather clears. (Western Village in Sparks, or Boomtown, for example.) Your CA registration, since it's a private vehicle and not a commercial one, is good everywhere. You don't need to re-register in other states. FWIW & HTH. . .
