I decided to raise the roof in my eagle 20 after stripping the inside. I do not wish to replace the front and rear caps at this tim due to nonavalibility and cost. I planned to raise after front cap and before rear , kind of a buffalo look which I can handle. Can I just cut into the roof arcs and raise ten inches without putting to much stress on them and interfearing with the arc engineering. My fear is that I could wind up with the roof shifting to the side and collapsing. I plan to spray in poly foam insulation with a depth going from two inches where the roof joins the frame to four inches in center. Will the foam be enough support for the roof. Will the ten inch raise be to much for side wind stress? Any thoughts, comments, help would be appreciated. Thank you, Ed (thattruckerguy@yahoo.com) |

I would re-think that plan. I think you would be getting very close to edge of the "butt ugly" abyss... You should be able to add a filler strip to the exiting caps in less time than it will take to "french in" buffalo hump on each end, plus you will maintain the classic lines of the eagle. JMHO |

You might contemplate using the roof raise to include a window , front and rear , as in many GM or Flex coaches. You would not have the almost boggeling view a real Senicruser has , but the light in the coach would about doubble , and the interior would "feel" much larger. On the flexes and buffaloes its always great to be able to see some sky , and out into the distance. BE sure to frame in bracing for a couple of sky lights ( boat hatches that can open} about 24in sq , and you will have that in the park feeling inside. AS there is little use for much headroom in the rear bed area , you could contemplate using the area behind the shorter raised roof as a porch area. There would be no extra drag , as the raised roof would block any hardware or folding rails. Just a thought, FAST FRED |

I have an Eagle 20 that I am about to raise 10" and I will just add a filler on both existing caps and also re-shape the Darth Vader front cap to look more like the traditional Eagle look. Looks to me like it would be more work to do what you are wanting to do and it will look pretty odd in the end with questionable strength (depending on how you actually do the job). Maybe consider inviting a fiberglass guy over for some advice on where to cut and fill? Greg Roberts 1989 Eagle 20 South Texas |
