I have a 1982 RTS II transit bus, can anyone tell me what causes the delay in acceleration and can it be eliminated or fixed.

If you have a 6V92TA engine, welcome to the world of emission controls.

The delay's at it's worst from a dead stop, right?

If so, you've got what's called a "Throttle Delay", which is a mechanism in the throttle linkage that prevents the injectors from going to the "full-fuel" position until the turbocharger comes up to speed.

Concept is to reduce billows of black smoke out the exhaust.

Can it be eliminated or fixed?

Sure. Any good DD technician can do it. "Will he?" is another question. Especially if you're in an area where the politicos make a big stink about air pollution.

IMHO, adjust your driving style accordingly. . .
