I own a 1982 , 350 Cummins with 200,000 Miles
on it , just had a Oil Analysis done and it came up with normal wear and tear.
I am looking for a good Diesel Additive that keeps my "Baby" in good condition.
Any knowledgeble Input will be highly appreciated.
Thank you, Jurgen

i do not recommend the use of any fuel additive...... anything you mix with the fuel has to pass throught the fuel injector to leave the engine.. (it has to be burned)...meaning it has to pass through and possibly damage an injector...... i recommend filters that are filtered down to 2 micron....like caterpillar uses.....the electronic ddec detroits also recomend the use of this size filter.....the older 8v detroit stuff will handle a 10 micron size particle..... you are not doing yourself any good trying to treat your fuel.... it has enough lubricity to properly lubricate your fule system as it is.....in colder weather, you may want to use "winterized" diesel.... kerosene has been added to make the diesel thinner......you are wasting money addidng additives to your fuel.... buy good quality fuel... keep it clean.....and you shouldnt have any problems......

I operate a 60 ft commercial fishing vessel with a DD 8V71 main,NEVER NEVER EVER use a final filter more than 2 micron, you will use more filters but save a fortune on injectors, I have
logged 14000 nautical miles on this engine @ an
average speed of 5 KTS over all = 2800 HRS,with
no fuel problems.I use alge killer once in a while because of large multiple fuel tanks totaling 2000 gals.

I have a 30 micron primary filter,some use 10.
This engine was not new when I got it,I dont know what was on it before,I have seen Injectors last
the life of an engine and some of the next.
I m using high sulfer commercial fuel, I dont have a lot of experience with the road fuel.

Jurgen -

I agree with Jim - buy good quality fuel, keep the tank full, change the filters regularly.

If you live in a high humidity area, you might add some algaecide to keep the bugs from growing. Bio-bor is one brand, available from the boat folk as well as major HD truck parts houses.
