My EAGLE 05 was retitled back in 1988 after a professional conversion and I cannot find the original vin # anywhere. It has an 8V71 engine, which is supposedly the original that was rebuilt. Is there a way to ID the engine? I did find the numbers "78" raised on the block by the manifold on the right side. Could that be a year? I'd really like to solve the mystery...can anyone help? |

open the engine compartment door....on the framework around the opening...on the bottom right hand side, there should be a plate welded there that has a number on it...my bus is a 1978 & the sn is 19835...if you get your s.n. it will be fairly easy to find the year |

Those that re-title buses know where all the identifiers are and popularly remove them to hide the original vintage. Dark lighting, make-up, a little cosmetic surgery and you can't tell the mothers from the daughters, or the grandmothers, for that matter! happy coaching! buswarrior |

There isn't any plate welded on his frame. He was shown where to look for it and it isn't there! Ace |

Ok, I found the original plate on the back. It was coverd with paint and guess what, they ground off the old # and stamped it with the new one. I'm hoping that somewhere else there is the original vin #. I will keep looking. If any body knows of another place to look let me know ... thanks. See you in Arcadia, Ace. |

What is the number stamped there? If it is a 5 digit number, then it is probably the original number. The number on mine was hand stamped on a piece of flat plate and then welded into the engine compartment frame. If a new vin was assigned it would have been a 17 digit number in 1988 I believe. My '78 8v71 does indeed have a serial # and plate on it. I found it when I replaced the starter last month... it was buried underneath it. Are you trying to date the coach OR the engine? The VIN was likely redone to get it re-titled in some state because the true VIN was lost at some point. Or the professional converter was trying to be coy about the bus year. At any rate, whatever state that did the VIN work MIGHT have record of the old chassis number(s). HTH, Brian Brown |

Try running the VIN through carfax or one of the other sources from NADA or Kelley. Len |

The 05 eagles had the vin # welded to the AC on the pass side in the engine compartment. It was probably removed with the AC. When I removed the AC on my 05 I welded the vin back onto the frame rail. |
