I need to barrow or rent a tow dolly for a week or so from someone in New England, I need to bring my uncle his car. He lives in Florida. After I drop it off, I will return it a week later. Thanks John Harrelson | ||

U-Haul rents dollys. Just go in with a vehicle that is on thier "list" to pick it up. A "by the book" dealer may not rent it to go behind your bus. Ross | ||

At any of those rental place, don't hook the car at their place if you tow a R.W.D. as you will have to put the rear on the dolly & they don't understand that, they will require that you remove the drive shaft & hook the front on the dolly. wrench | ||

Wrench, they understand it very well. U-Haul policy is that the car must be installed on the dolly at time of rental. Also they have a list to go by that indicates what vehicles may be towed and what vehicles are allowed to tow a dolly. In general only compact cars may be towed on the dolly. Best to call first and see if your combination is legal, and if you turn the vehicle around that will void the insurance. My instructions was that if I did what you suggest and there was an accident, I could be held liable. Richard | ||

In 4 years of being a U-Haul dealer, I think I had one customer put the car on the dolly on the lot. The deal is that the car doing the towing and the car being towed are printed on the contract. If there is a problem and either does not match what's on the contract, you're on your own. I had a few instances where people lied to get the dolly out the door, had a problem and were held responsible. On the other hand, I'm sure there were a number of people who lied and had no problems at all. I towed a 3/4 ton ton truck on a U-Haul dolly. Talk about setting a bad example.  Ross | ||

I'll sell you my dolly for $500 located in northeastern Vermont. Personally I'd opt for the drive and fly plan. Tim. |
