I have been approached by a potentail buyer who saw my coach advertised on this forum. He wants to buy with no money down. He has suggested that he is willing to pay too much for the coach. I am wondering if anyone has done with a stranger and was what the results were. Has anyone ever hear of Tom Smith from Pensacola, FL? |

You need to be asking yourself 'why is he willing to pay too much for the coach?' The first thing that comes to my mind is that he has no intention of paying. If the banks won't loan him money (& they have the resources to collect), why should you? Seems too shady to me. I'd be very careful here. kyle4501 |

If he wants it bad enough, he will come up with the money somehow. Cash or certified check. If he can't come up with it; forget it.How would he maintain it if he can't finance it or come up with the coin? There is a SLIGHT chance that it COULD work out, but usually, they want to pay you directly in payments, since they can't get financing.... they make one or two payments, then your are screwed, as they suddenly have " issues " and have to delay the next payment. If they are in a different state, you won't be able to do much; if same state, by the time and money is spent to get the coach back, it's received damage or worse. See if he's willing to make payments to you while you keep the coach till it is paid off. |

Certified checks can be forged quite convincingly. I'd insist on cash, but offer to show the bus then meet them the next day at the bank to transfer the cash and title. |

Mike - Is that "buyer" suggesting he wants to pay time payments, or that he wants to pay you more (by check, MO, or whatever), with you refunding the balance? If it's #1, I'd go cash only. Otherwise, wait for a personal check to clear. No MO or cashier's check BS, the bank can take the money back if the paper turns out to be counterfeit .... even months later! If it's #2, it's an absolute scam. Fuggitaboutit. (see: Scams) (Message edited by john_mc9 on December 26, 2006) |

Hi Mike, I want you to go now to the "for Sale" pages. Either of the "Under" or "Over" pages have a strong warning/caution/caveat at the bottom of the page. Pleaase read them very carefully and if they sound like your "buyer", don't even begin to respond. Careful, friend, we don't need your next message to start... "Well, I can't believe this happened to me...". Ian www.busnut.com |

Count those green currency thingies out on the table , then give the keys. You will have about ZERO recourse if he takes it and sells it for cash . BEWARE , dont be a sucker!!! FF |

You've got a lot of good info here. Use your gut feeling. Basically, money (cash) talks and bulls**t walks. If the guy can't come up with ALL of the money, you could set up some kind of installment or layaway plan. DO NOT release the bus until all the money is verified! Be advised that a Stop Payment can be made on a cashier's check! |

I once sold a bus to a gentleman from texas. He was upfront on the fact he didn't have all of the cash so we made a deal where he sent me money from time to time and I held onto the bus. He paid it off in about 9 months and we transfered the bus and title to him. Both of us are still happy! JimH |

"I once sold a bus in Nantucket, to a guy that didn't have enough buck fo'it; I waited ten years, nearly drowned in my beers, and finally told him to errr, stuff it....." Naww, time payments or layaways are the pits....! Cash & Carry (Pay & Pray) |

Mike Another bad thing that could happen if y0u carried the note; ANY possible mechanical failure( overheating the bus, fried clutch, etc) then he decides to walk; nothing invested - nothing lost on his part. beware... Mark |
