Ok fellow busnuts, I need to make a firm stand on what im goin to skin the painted part of my eagle with. Ive been goin through the past posts for the last two hours and my head is still spinnin on this, as im still in the dark. whats all the hype about this that vs that this use this rivet with that and this and prime for this to keep elyctrolist from setting in, whew here we go again. All jokes aside I know the basics but if you prime the back of alluminum and use an aluminum rivet to go through mild steel is it not still touching raw alluminum to steel???? Ive got to skin everything but the roof. Im thinking since the roof is already alluminum that it would be logical to go alluminum for the midways down section but, hince my problem, I want to use polished steel the last 3 or so feet, what do you all think. Thanks, Steve |

Steve some of the NJT Eagles has stainless from the top of the baggage doors down and they do loose the look of the Eagle from that. |

Bob Greenwood, I think the roof of my Eagle is aluminum because: 1. A magnet will not stick to it. 2. It is silver under the paint & does not rust when bare metal. 3. A falling tree branch dents & distorts it very easily. 4. Eagle Mfg. used up all of the steel they had in the frame which DOES rust! Jim-Bob |

Bob Greenwood, Hey I aint trying to be a smart a** or nothing but isnt alluminum metal? Ive got the interior stipped to the studs and its for sure alluminum. Accually it was alluminum in side to. Looked like they formed the alluminum and then covered it with a form of formica, that off white color. Now the front cap was a surprise, it looks to be cold stamped regular rustable steel....I did find alot a alluminum in alot of different kinds of places inside. the nose above the windsheild wipers was fiber glass as well as the rear lower cap again though the top of the rear cap was steel. My bus sat 10 years or more and the paint on the roof has flaked off in alot of places the size of a five gallon can lid, and its for sure alluminum. |

Hey Steve, With regard to the electrolesis(no idea how to spell it) my 65 crown has an aluminum roof attached to steel framing and it is now about 42 years old with negligable electrolesis taking place It is a phenominom that in our pasttime that is worried far to much.If you coat yur rivets with a self etching primer when you install them IMHO the process will outlast you and I. |

Bonified busnut, That was what I was saying too. I stripped off the interior alluminum and looked up at the bottom of the exterior slluminum and I can see it looks just like the day it was installed nearlly 40 years ago, Im talking about the rivets and all. |
