Has anyone ever tried using a second hot water heater to heat engine coolant to heat the driver's heater? I have a spare one and I need to repair/replace coolant lines in my 4905 and I was condsidering putting it on the dr. side behind the fuel tank.

Glen, There is a booster on your bus that should help get hotter water to the front of the bus. Some body on this board should be able to tell you more about it and how it works. You still advertising for me? :-)

Some idiot (me) removed the pump and some tubing in the old fan compartment to make room for the generator. so, I need to repair that section and will likley install a new pump of some type. The original one was dead. I am thinking of using this water heater to supply hot coolant to the driver's area while the engine is off. I'd plumb in a valve so that I would only be heating the forward section of the coolant and not the engine when parked. No sense wasting heat! I guess it could be called a poor man's webasto. I can use the engine to supply the heat while under way and then just kick on the heat once parked. Any thouhts?

PS, Ron - Still advertising!

I think adding a hot water heater to provide heat to the defroster doesn't make much sence......the radiant heat capability of the core is minimal without the blowers on which is a rather large draw.....plus you would have to have a generater running.......so for space I would just put in an electric toe kick heater

Hey Glenn

Yea, I figured 12,000 btu would be good for something like that also. NOT.

Most of the 12,000 btu is going out the exhaust. Burned thru 2 Propane bottles REAL QUICK, basically no heat felt inside.

Ended up buying a Webasto, and used the HW heater as a buffer tank. Keeps the webasto from cycling on and off as quick.

I would pick up the $500 used proheat, use the pump in it, add your choice of heat exchangers (Toe-Kick, Baseboard, Fan Coil, Etc)and a $120.00 flat plate heat exchanger for instant endless shower hot water.

Lots of options, good luck with your choices,

Bill Glenn
