I am trying to find the part that regulates the pressure for the air brake system. Is the horizontal cylinder shaped thing behind the air intake hose and just above the rocker cover it?

If not, then what does anyone suppose that thing is, and where might I look for the air pressure regulator?

Thanks,

Chuck

Hey Bob. Since I got the 4104 home I noticed oil driping out of the air throttle actuator. I talked to Father in law and he said he has changed the air compressor twice in the last year to try and stop it. Is there any other place oil could get in other than compressor seals?

Hi Duane if your bus has had a compressor push oil into the system it may take a while to get it all out as the air movement will push the oil through out the system. Make shure you have drained all air tanks and repeat draining them to remove as much oil as possible. Chuck as Bob mentioned most compressors have the air governor mounted right to the head of the compressor but not all some are remote mounted on the fire wall. These are found on older buses and trucks but are usually removed and replaced by the later compressor mounted style. You may also be looking at the system dryer look at the bottom to see if there is a drain valve

I posted a photo of what I am looking at. Is this perhaps, the remote version of an air regulator?

Here is a link to my yahoo briefcase where the photo is: http://tinyurl.com/ypblj3

Thanks,

Chuck

Chuck -

The link doesn't work. Tried it in both IE and Firefox.

If you resize it to less than 20KB, you can post it here.

FWIW & HTH. . .

Chuck,

From my memory I think your photo shows the water/air controller for the radiator shutters and contains some thermostats. Is definitely not the air gov because you can see it is in the water system.

The original air comp gov is high on the right side (Pass) mounted on the firewall and will have a small air line to the compressor. Or; it may have been converted to the new type mounted on the comp head. I changed mine on my 4104 to the new type but kept it on the firewall. Had to use a few different adapters for the air connections but figure it takes a lot less abuse and heat away from the comp.

Chuck,

Forgot to mention, the new type looks nothing like either of the two original types. I, too, went crazy trying to find the one shown in the manual.

Thanks Gus..... You have named the mystery part! Darn, I was hopeing it was the part I was looking for. At least I didn't have anyone pull it off for a rebuild.

Regards,

Chuck
