R. J. Long's excellent busnut.com article on shifting says for downshifting, floor it and let the governor set the top speed. What is the proper technique with a gasoline engine? I have not seen a governor on a gas engine. And many medium-weight buses have gasoline engines, as well as some heavy-duty buses like ACF Brill.
