Hi I've long wondered about the history of my 1960 GM coach PD 4104-4624. I would like to know as much history as possible. Anything you can tell me is greatly appreciated. I know everything about her after 1989 when I wrote the check and drove her home, but nothing before. How close to the end of production was mine? Thanks, Tom |

Tom - PD4104-4624: Oklahoma Transportation Company, Oklahoma City, OK. Delivered new in March of 1960, fleet number O370. (That's alpha "O" three seven zero. "O" for OTC.) IIRC, OTC was affilitated with either Greyhound or Trailways, can't remember which. . . Most line-haul or tour bus companies keep their new coaches about ten years, some more, some less. Greyhound traditionally replaces 10% of their fleet every year, thereby maintaining a 5-year average fleet age. If OTC followed the industry average, then it was probably sold off around 1970. Last '04 carried VIN PD4104-5065, delivered in August of 1960. HTH, RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |

RJ: After reading similar threads many times and now this, I just gotta ask: PD4104-4850? From the wet-wipe packets I found in the outside walls when removing the '70s-looking band-bus conversion and the original crapper, it must have been a Greyhound. Thanks. Ted. |

Ted - Yep, you're right about it being an ex-hound. . . PD4104-4850: Eastern Greyhound Lines, Cleveland, OH. Delivered new in June of 1960, fleet number E3292. As I've said before, Greyhound has an excellent preventative maintenance program, and usually keep their coaches 10 years. Most likely they sold it at the end of the summer season in 1970. So you are one of the few who can truthfully say that you own a Greyhound bus!! RJ |

Hi Dan You inquired about 1967 - MC5-7035. If the VIN is 7035, it would be a 1972 MC5B, OR could it be 6035?? If so, it was delivered to Western Greyhound Lines Bus No 2279 - 11/66. I HOPE THIS HELPS!!! LLUKE at US COACH |

Doug - All Scenicruisers were a special order built only for Greyhound by GMC. (Several other bus companies tried to buy them during production, but GL/GMC both said sorry, buy a 4104 instead.) In your case, PD4501-0274 was delivered to Pacific Greyhound, #K2224, in early 1955. It saw subsequent service as P2224 with Western Greyhound Lines, then as C1189 serving Central-Southwest Greyhound, and ended it's 'Hound career as Central Greyhound Lines' #1189. Note that all these are various names of the different divisions of Greyhoud Corp., not individual operating companies. After it's retirement from Greyhound service, it was sold to Grim Coaches of Little Rock, AR. And now you own it. . . RJ |

If you happen to be an MCI owner in Canada, and wondering about your coach's history, there's a great book called "Greyhound Canada" by Brian Grams and Donald Bain. On the last page the fleet rosters go all the way back to 1928. Not that there were any MCI's back then, but from 1958 on, the book says that Canada's Greyhound fleet were mostly MCI's. There are no VIN#s but if the fleet number is anywhere to be found on your coach, you can check it out. There are notations beside some of the coaches indicating who bought the coach after Greyhound sold it off. Bryan Vancouver BC |
