We just need a little charger to keep the 2 8D bus batteries topped up when it sits for a long time. Any product suggestions? Any solar options? Thanks.

I had a small unit that I got at Sears that actually shut off when the battery reached the full charge state. Seemed to work great.

Don't laugh! I use a regular small charger, 6/10 amps. I keep 2 8Ds (12V in a 4104) charged by plugging it into one of those 24 hour "lamp" timers you put in your house to turn the lamp on for a couple of hours each night. I set the timer for 2-3 hours per day on 6 amp charger setting. Been working for years.
I do not disconnect the batteries unless I won't be able to run the charger, like if the bus is parked where there is no electric.

I use Deltran Battery Tenders. They're 12 volt (I believe they make a 24 volt model as well). They're about $25 or so and include cables to permanently mount to the bolts on the terminal studs. The ones I have are .75 amp. so they'll take forever to actually charge a battery, but they'll maintain a battery nicely without overcharging. I use them on my motorcycle, jet ski and boat batteries, 8D's, and spare batteries I have laying around. I'll be mounting three; one for each start battery and one for the generator battery. The house batteries have their own charger. Ebay is a good place to find them.

Walmart sells a Black and Decker 2/1 amp automatic float mode charger for 12v lead acid deep cycle, AGM, and Gel batteries. It says it switches between charging mode and float mode monitoring! It comes with a neat plug and three methods of attachment that can be plugged into the charger. 1 - battery clips, 2 - battery ring terminals, and 3 - accessory plug that goes into a cigar lighter. I just bought one today for 17.89.
