Detroit recommends against fuel additives. From section 5.3, page 5-7 of Detroit Diesel publication 7SE270, Lubricating Oil, Fuel, and Filters:

quote:

Detroit Diesel engines are designed to operate satisfactorily on a wide range of diesel fuels. The regular use of supplemental fuel additives is not required or recommended. Some additives may be beneficial in addressing temporary fuel quality problems, but should not replace proper fuel selection and handling.

Sections 5.3.1 through 5.3.3 go on to spell out what types of additives are allowable to solve the aforementioned temporary problems (emphasis theirs), and also what additives are explicitly forbidden in all circumstances. I highly recommend you obtain a copy of this publication, which is available free on the Detroit Diesel web site as a downloadable .PDF file.

Incidentally, this is the same publication that spells out the engine oil requirements that are, from time to time, hotly debated here. The publication has sections that apply to the 2-strokes and the 4-strokes, and sections that apply to both.

Was just talking to the service manager at a coach/tour company yesterday about this. They use Power Service in all of their fleet 24/7 year around. He says the drivers come in and complain of a lack of power if they don't add it.

Power service is wonderful, keeps the injectors clean, & I notice a tiny bit of power, used to use it mainly in the winter as an anti-gel for the diesel fuel, think it's about 15.00 a gallon ,at all truck stops, white jug,
