Hi everyone, well, Im still in my bus at my sisters in AZ ;o) the bus::: has a new tranny, and just got jakes installed, having some stuff welded here and there and working on the batery compartment, also , i painted it since i got here in sept. my sis:: not good, totally blind now, and cancer is, well, way worse, as is her memory and most all else. I am here for a few more months ( or less) , depends, but trying to get some stuff done o i CAN leave and be ok when i do :o) Hope everyone is doing well..... i have been searching the archives for info on this, cant find alot of opinions other than stowmaster and blue ox seem to be preferred brands, and stowmaster brackets easier to mount? can you guys post opinions on best brands and why, what you have, like dont like, and what you would recommend? i have a 2001 ford escort zx2 i want to tow behind my bus.....i have been told the one from stowmaster that stays on the car is best, and it is better to have it stay on the car than on the bus cause that one is stronger>>>>?agree? disagree? thoughts??? i need to buy it this week. |

Sorry to hear about your sister. Kristine go to Blueox.co and roadmasterinc.com and compare as I said on the other board Blue Ox has the best service. They are all of FMCA's rallies where Roadmaster is only at the two National rallies. As I said I have had both the Sterling from Roadmaster and the Avanti II from Blue Ox. I sold the Sterling so I could go back to Blue Ox. No matter which you go get one that stays on the BUS. (Message edited by eagle on February 13, 2007) |

Kristine, did you ever get anything set up with the guy (Larry) in Quartzite? You really need to get over there and let him spend a day or so educating you. He is very knowledgeable and can be a world of help to you. I think somebody also sells used as well as new tow bars there. Richard |

Roadmaster and Blue Ox are reputable and stand behind their products. I think Blue Ox is sometimes a little heavier built but I have towed with Roadmaster for more than 75,000 miles without a product problem. The weight is much better left on the tow vehicle than carried around on the front of a small toad. It makes noise, weight causes toad to ride hard and it's a good shin banger. Besides, eliminating the ball and coupler gets one more potential problem out of the system. Is the toad rated by mfg to be towed 4 down? Manual trans? Not all stick shifts are towable without special care. Generally speaking ALL non GM automatics are not towable. Some 4 wheel drive transfer cases that can be placed in neutral are ok but some require a dealer installed kit, some need the engine started every 200 miles, etc. Best idea is to check with factory, not a dealer. Many dealer personel are ill informed and tell you what the janitor told them. (Message edited by jimstacy on February 14, 2007) |

Sorry about your sis. I don't know if this is doable for you but there is a stowmaster on the bakersfield, ca. craigslist, #272681895 with all the bells and whistles, asking price is $900.00. I don't know anything about the condition and do not know the seller so, do your homework. I use this model of towbar and like the very simple way it attaches to the bus and also the ease of folding and storing on the Jeep. |
