Yes they do. They are also heavier than the car-mounted bars, due to the "universal joint" that's incorporated in the hitch.. The manufacturers designed the RV mounted ones, because the usual 12-15 foot overhang behind the rear axle was causing the back of the RV to raise and lower an enormous amount compared to the amount of incline/decline the front end was negotiating. A few inches of decline at the front, could amount to ten times the lift at the rear... You'd see towed vehicles actually being raised off the ground, as an RV crested a steep drive... The action took a toll on the hitch, ball, and tow bar. The RV mounted bar with it's universal-type joint, allowed for more movement, and (usually) kept the car from being lifted (sometimes). But the normal bus's rear bumper isn't 15' away from the drive axle, and the amount of "lever action" isn't a normal worry, as it is with a common RV.... I preferred the car mounted bar. They are lightweight and can be taken off the car's front end in less than a minute. They're less expensive, and easy to hook up (less than a minute). They also allow you to tow your car behind any vehicle with a hitch, making it a whole lot easier if/when you find that necessary... As far as leaving it on the bus while you tour around in your car? If you think things won't disappear at an unfamiliar campground when you take off in your car, leaving stuff behind, think again. It's a lot heavier and cumbersome to take it off the bus, than the any of the car mounted types... There's pro and cons with each.... Go to a campground near you, and see first-hand. |

Hey Christine, Dave here, we met at Bussin USA in Rickreall last year, I was sporting a jug of vodka flavored orange juice cause i wasn't sure when happy hour was You been busy on your rig eh. Good on ya. In answer to your question about the tow vehicle mountings or folding. I own two of the other types which mount on the toad, but from what I have seen the tow vehicle mounted fold out of the way nicely against the back of the coach. I have not priced that type out, but there was one tow vehicle bar for sale at Rickreall in the swap meet. I think the guy was not asking to much for it either if memory serves me right. I picked up a stowmaster for $25.00 or so last fall in Victoria, the price was right anyway. Hope this helps. Are you gonna make your way up north again this year, lol. Dave out |

We and our niece & nephew both have the bus mounted bar and we love it, wouldn't have any other. It connects to the car by two hitch pins in just a minute. We never take it off the bus except to tow the "toad" with another vehicle. (Only ever needed to do this once) It fits every vehicle we or our friends have because all have standard 2" receivers on them. We never buy the light non receiver hitches because our various racks, bike racks, drawbar/ball combinations and yes, the tow bar wouldn't work. Plus, we always tow heavy stuff sooner or later. As far as someone stealing it, this isn't something we worry about. First, we have NEVER had anything stolen in a camp ground although we don't tempt fate. We put stuff away. But every trailer hitch we have has a locking pin through the receiver so nobody can steal or sabotage anywhere, Wal-Mart, Cracker barrel, State Park or ???. Ours is a Blue Ox Adventa bar. There is a website where people list tow products they want to sell or buy. http://www.hitchtrader.com/ Jim-Bob |
