I have to run this thru you guys one more time, I'm just past stripping out my 1984 MCI9 with a 6v92, This will eventually be my home since I'm on SSDI,Why you ask did i get a bus !! Because i wanted too. Anyway I need power to work on my bus, I want to be able to boondock and work on it, Besides jacking it up i can do most things this way. I have mentioned an Onan generator with a 4 cyl cummins that i can purchase for 2000 well now i got this person to go down to $1500. the model # is 12mdl3p serial # k923977032.Several of you said this was overkill and i understand that but most diesel generators for sale (used) are garbage !! I have requested from two service centers what it would cost to rebuild but have yet to receive a reply, I am mechanically inclined (some what) and could do minor repairs but what do you guys think?? Yes maybe it is overkill but i don't want cheep but I AM CHEEP !!! I will have two roof ac,refer, air compressor 120/240 , 42" plasma tv which is 410W plus all the other garbage i can fit into it. Is this a good price for the GENERATOR? THANKS EVERYONE for your imput. I can't wait to get this bus out in the mountains. THEmule |

Keep in mind, that there's tons of gensets that are salvage from the bunch of hurricanes we've had. They're all over the country by now.. Totally worthless junk..... A 4cyl diesel is going to use some fuel, a lot more than a 2cyl gas engine... And with the price of diesel about .50 more than cheap gas....? Why not buy a used gas genset? If you're going to be in the mountains, why not an el'cheapo' brand new construction genset? |

you keep skirting the main issue,it doesn't run & it doesn't generate elec....ain't worth much PLUS it will probably weigh as much as a Volkswagen... I'd rather pay 1500 for a Honda genset... |

RJ, with some careful shopping you could find a used 7.5KW Onan that wouldnt need anything except installing for the same price($1500)Put it in and go on to something else.......... Mucho better and a fraction of the weight.....The Honda model that two dogs suggest would also be better than the set you are considering...IMHO |

Even most 4 cyl Diesel Gensets use "LESS" fuel per hour per killowatt than ANY gas powered generator. I know, This will start an argument. But I have a 10kw 4-cylinder Kubota V1505 powered generator and it uses about a quart of fuel an hour. My 6.5 Onan Gas used 1 gallon an hour at 1/2 load. I also have a Kubota diesel powered 3-cyl that turns 2,200 rpm spinning a 3,600 rpm 10Kw head and it still only burns about a quart an hour. Anyway, That's my story and Im'e sticking with it ! |

In Florida, gas (regular) is 2.09, while diesel is $2.85... I think you'll find that the newer, slower spinning, inverter-type gensets use a whole lot less gas, than the older screamers.. |

RJMule - You oughta' post a want ad, here on I@n's BBS. I'm sure there's plenty of decent gensets for decent prices. I'd trust a fellow busnut, before some Ebay unknown... |
