RJ, The railroad uses a LOT of Deutz engines on their smaller track repair equipment. As mentioned above, they are air cooled, which just about makes them impossible to either be compartment mounted, or silenced. The machine operator is required to wear hearing protection. These engines replaced 453's which were even noisier. What did you say? Huh? Quit mumbling, speak up! Sorry |

I was trying to be nice. The county has a deutz powered water pump that they ran for 8 months about 1 mile away from my house across the swamp lake and through the woods. I couldn't keep my windows open at night and would wake up when the engine changed pitch. They do seem to run forever from what I have seen of them. Heck they even put them in military trucks in europe and desert regions. But nothing beats my 1-cylinder Changfa diesel for making noise... Gawd... is it noisey !!!!! Sounds like a machine shop tumbling parts in a barrel. Oh Well.... |
