I have a Modine oil fired ceiling heater 185000BTU hot air furance in my bus garage, I would like the air to be a little hotter but I do not want to warp or ruin the furance. The org. setting on the fan limit switch is low 100 and hig 130, I would like to go to 130 and 175, is this to hot, I thought some one on this board would have so exp. on hot air furances. Thanks. |

No can do... the high limit will shut the system down due to design. The unit is designed for a limited amount of BTU's. Exceding this could be costly in terms of loss of property and even worse, loss of life. Change the whole unit. The cost may not be a great as you may think. Hope this helps. |

Doug: The high limit is 200, I have it set now at the reading I stated and it seamed to work well but I only use the heater when Iam in that shop. and just changed the setting and tried it a coupl. of time and Im concerned if to hot that it may warp the fire box. It really does not seam that hot. |

If your high set point is 200, then you should be ok. Aside from that, I would not go any higher. The fire box shoud be designed to exceed temps much greated then that. The disavantage to a higher seting on your unit is the run time will be much greater using more energy and gas. A larger BTU unit will run less and faster recovery/heating time. Not sure if I'm helping you any but I do love talking HVAC. Later. |

Bill, Out of curosity, why do want to increase the discharge air temp. Additional increase in garage heat? or just quicker recovery ? I have the same unit fired with propane and in a 2,500 sq ft area, about 14 ft ceiling, it works just fine. I do not know how large you garage is or how it is insulated. Just interested as to why the increase is desired. Take care. Gary |

Gary: I going to go back to the org. settings, I just thought that the warmer was better, but it did just heat fine, I have a hard time letting thing alone, I'm the type that has to tear everthing apart and try to improve. Yes sometimes I get myself in trouble. |

Bill, You and I both can't leave things alone. I had to relocate the exising Modine to clear the bus. I had aquired (free) a two year old hi efficency A/C heater unit and thought it would work well in the hanger, both heat and air conditioning (4 Tons). I had installed allthread hangers and used a ductlift to raise the Trane air handler to the 13' elevation, only to have the unit topple over as it contacted the hangers. No one hurt. The unit was terminal. Just cleaned up the mess and relocated the Modine.... Take care, Gary |

Hi Bill, The fan limit is basicly a"fan control" It is cycleing the fan on when the chamber reaches 130 deg. and cycleing the fan off when the chamber cools down to 100 deg. Nothing to do with the actual btu's that the furnace puts out or it's heating capacity. Nick- |
