I have a air cooled alt on my bus. I took it of and rebuilt it some time back. I packed the bearings with a good high temp grease. It does have a grease fitting but go very easy on the grease. The manuall says after rebuild to service it again in 300,000 miles. That is what da book says. |

John, BRB2 is a grease made of colloidal copper, molybdenum sulfide and hydrocarbon oil. If Chevron denies you, its sold by Fel-Pro Company under the trademark Fel-Pro 174 |

Earl, I have an air cooled alt. also. I'm fixing to rebuild mine. right now it freezes up after about 6 hrs on the road and breakes all the belts. Did you have any trouble finding bearings and are there any tips I should know. |

Richard it sounds like you might have a bearing problem. Just remember to turn your disconnect switch off. The alt. is heavy. I rolled mine out on a piece of 2x8. I got new bearings for mine at a local place that sells bearings, seals and all that good stuff. If they give you a sealed bearig take the cover of on the inside of each bearing so the grease can get to them. If it is charging OK give it a good cleaning. Put in the new bearings and put it back on. I used the 2x8 to roll it back in. |

I know this probably shouldn't be posted here, but on this subject; I have a brand new Delco 50 DN air cooled alternator (NOS) for sale at a low price. As used on Eagle applications (12 volt). If interested I can email you pictures and specs. |
