I have an 1965 model 01 silver eagle that I have recently replaced the compressor on. I would like to locate the air dryer and replace it with a new one as I am getting grey oil slurry in the rear left (drivers) rear air tank before the compressor change. The bus was renovated in 1980 and I am taking care of problems as I can. I have located and emptied the ping tank the which is next in line after the compressor (now installed (used)). The line running from the ping tank (small tank with drain about a quart in size), to the centre travel way and lease forward. This where I need a little help locating the air dryer. where might I look. I did remove and almost replaced something that looked like an air dryer but it was loaded with oil. it is in a canister that looks much like an air dryer. It has something to do with the oil system, maybe a oil cooler as the oil in it was black and not the grey slurry that was in the air tank. I will be putting that back on the bus. Thanks John |

if you replaced the compressor...you got rid of 99% of the problem....the air tanks should be drained at the end of a days run.....pull cords etc. |

Ok, that will save a lot of time looking for something that is not there. That canister that I removed turned out to be the remote oil filter.. I have reinstalled it. Where might be the best place the air dryer. And how may feet away from the compressor (in tubing feet) |

air dryer is a luxury item....you CAN buy one....money better spent elsewhere. if you got a genuine rebuilt compressor.you solved 99% of the problem.....buy pull cords to install in the bottom of the 5 air tanks...two minutes to pull them at the end of the day..... |

I have purchased the air dryer. I am guessing that I will need six to 8 feet of new air line between the ping tank and the air dryer. and what ever it will be to the tank feed line. I was under the impression that the dryer might be near the front of the bus. I do have room in the rear of the bus, but that remote oil and remote fuel filter take up good mounting space. I can sill sleep on top of the batteries there is space there. Bob thank you for the repeated input; I choose to have an air dryer and installed it in the typical location in the air system. I am not convinced that having water in my brake chamber is a luxury. I got the compressor used and was told it was good, I got a new air dryer for less then $180.00 for what it provides cheap insurance I will see. I will get to the air dryer installation later. Thanks for all of the input John |

Bendix specifys 6 to 8 feet away from the compressor with a downhill slope towards air drier with adequate air flow around it. Other than that you can put it where it will fit best. On 4905's they are installed by the end of the fuel tank on the driver's side, which is 2/3 of the way towards the front of the coach. |

I think an air drier is a very useful an important addition, keeping the crap out of the brake system should help the brake components to last longer, especially with the amount of time that a lot of our coaches sit. |
