I was tightening the oil sump pan on my '04 when I overtorqued a soft nut and it broke. I pulled off the sump and see that the nut inside the oil pan is completely encased in steel and is an integral part of the pan. I guess it must be drilled and tapped, but I have no clue on how its done or how hard it is to accomplish. Any pointers would be most appreciated.. JT4104 |

Take the pan off and have a nut brazed in. When you re-tighhten the pan & sump, with new gaskets, use a torque wrench and follow the pattern. Do not over-tighten! Good Luck. Ted. |

I've had good luck simply using a center punch to set a center on the bolt and then drilling it out with a left hand drill bit, most times the bolt unscrews itself while drilling, if not then unscrew it with an ez-out. Good luck, Tom |

I assume you are writing about the drain plug and you have the pan off. Without a lot of tools you can drill a hole in the bolt, then place a carriage head bolt through the hole from the inside (the type that has a square at the top of the threads before the head before the head. Put lock washer and nut on the other side. As you tighten the nut it will force the square head of the bolt into the round hole . Tighten the nut as much as you can then back out bolt with a pair of locking pliers |

Drill the whole shebang out and put a helicoil in it's place. It's threads are as hard as a Grade 8 ,and won't strip out with the Grade 8 bolts that I recommend you put in to replace the soft (i.e. cheap) ones that you have now. This is the quickest, easiest, strongest solution you can come up with. BTDT Cheers...JJ |
