Mike,

Top speed is totally dependent upon tire size and differential ratio. I don't have a ratio chart instantly available, but several other posters have, if you do a search. We also don't know what the top speed is set at on the engine. So, BLOCK IT AT THE JACKING POINTS WITH QUALITY BLOCKING MATERIALS, go under and read the tag on the diff, read the tire size, and the tables will tell you.

with standard 22.5 tire and 2150- to 2200 RPM these are APPROX MPH

4.10 - approx 74-77 MPH
4.55 - approx 70-73 MPH
5.13 - approx 60-63 MPH
5.38 - approx 58-60 MPH

put a chalk mark on the tire - have someone pull the bus foward in parking lot and with a flash light look into the raised passenger side tranny cover and count the number of times the differential "U" joint turns per revolution of the tire - you may have to go 2 or 3 revolutions to get an accurate ratio

P.S. I have used 4.55's for $500 (whole pumpkins)
and new 4.10 (ring and pinion only) for just over $2000

Ok, thanks guys... it is a 1990 Flxible 30 footer..
and i couldnt find any differential ratio listed..
So at least i can get another differential and have it cruise at 60-65...anyway..

I want to use it for short hauls carrying Jukeboxes.. These new transits have front doors wide enough and low enough to put a jukebox up inside...

I just would like to get the mpg up to 10 if i can.. i can live with that.. but 6 kinda hurts.:-)

I guess the electric touch button V730 should hold up for awhile..

I see people put the V730's in 4106 and 07's...

So a lite weight 30 footer should be no problem..

thanks for the info and Pete in Daytona for having ratio's available..

This flexible is an easy jack up unit with the frame..:-)

Still only gonna get about 6mpg.

The FLX I had with a 4:56 rear gear topped against the governor at 72mph @ 2,150 rpm.

It's also probably set up for Federal Coach @ 277 hp so max rpm may be limited. If it's a DDEC (electronic) it could be reprogrammed but probably expensive.

Mike

"...electric touch button V730 ..."

if it's a push button shifter box - it's a V731

Pete RTS/Daytona

when my RTS was a 5.13 - I got up to 7 MPG on I-10
coming home from Ca. to Fl. - flat out 62 MPG

you increase fuel efficiency approx 1.2% for every 100 rpms less than 2100 down to about 1500 rpms

SOOOO - With my new 4.10's - If I drive 65 MPH at 1750 RPM - I could get 9 MPG ?? (25% gear change and 5% efficiency change)

Are you positive that it has a 6V-92? That seems awful big for a 30 footer. The 30 foot I dismantled (older), had a V6-71 and about 5:17 or 5:38's. The differential was smaller than the one in my 4905. A lot of transits have the governors set at 18 or 1900. and have small injectors-55's on 71's
