Anyone have any connections for parts number changes. I have a parts manual for my Cummins. The Cummins dealer does not want to use and time getting a new number or telling price. If I have/get a modern number, he Cummins store will tell availability and maybe price. Because the prices rise so quickly, every price is checked on the phone. After a while, the nice Cummins partsman will not look. There must be a web site to check parts but, only known by the Cummins store people. I would like to find the Cummins parts site. The local guy will not tell me and I think there is a password required. Finding modern replacement parts for a 40 year old Cummins engine is very time consuming. There are other Cummins parts makers but their name and location is not known. Any Cummins parts help greatly appreciated. Frank Bigtime Crown bus fan.

Frank, I have some Cummins stuff. What do you need? Do you have a 220 or 250 engine? The 250 interchanges with a lot of higher horsepower parts. If its a 250 with piston coolers it can go way over 400hp. If you want power, Pittsburg Diesel sells it, "dieselinjection.net". You can go over 1000HP with a mechanical block. They also have computer kits for big power from Detroit and Cat. If you read through the info at their site you will gain an unbelieveable amount of knowledge about Diesel Power. Lets race!

Frank...never had a problem with Cummins Southwest. Always quote a price and availability. Let me know if I can help.

OE manufacturers charge outrageous $$ to their dealers for access to part numbers. Sometimes a thousand dollars a month (or more!). As you say, it is time consuming to look-up older model parts. Most experienced parts people work on a commission pay plan. To spend a lot of time looking up older model parts, just to give out the part numbers so the "customer" can go elsewhere to buy the parts is not a very productive or fun thing to do. This is just the point of view of a career parts person.
