I think I speak for a lot of us busnuts when I say, When you have a problem, breakdown. or any life wrenching bus related Scenario, You all seem to know where to find us to ask, BUT a lot of you seem to forget comming back to let us know what actually turned out to be the fix. There are a lot of very intelligent mechanical folks on here and other boards, this problem is not limited to a single board, we offer advice and experiences, some know what they are talking about some think they do, Everyone at least takes the time to respond, yet we set around wondering, DID he get it fixed? what really solved it? Or did they ever make it home? most of us read this and other boards to learn something, sometimes just for amusement, like Busnut spats, So everyone please remember ask what ever But please show the rest of us the same courtesy we tried to show you, POST THE RESULTS, sorry for the babbling Bill

It would also be helpful if we have a similar problem to diagnose it.

Well, I've tried to respond to this thread 3 times now. Post disappears? One more try...
Byron made it home to Tampa about 0215 Friday morning.
I posted in error, that he found a new belt. He did, but told them, more or less, to stuff it when they informed him the cost would be $87 bucks. He found another belt in the tool compartment (his bus must have some belt eating history), cleaned it up, installed it and got home without further issues.
Thanks to Bill who probably freed up the belt tensioner linkage.
Anyway, that's the only breakdown with resolution that I can think of.
Byron posted a "thanks" to Bill for his assistance and an outcome on the MCI board. Not sure if he posts on this site.. he does not post on MAK board.
I'm the poster of Byron's breakdown, on both this and the MAK board.
Tried to post the outcome, but couldn't post to this thread.
Byron is 19 years old and must have some major cojones! He's a bonafide busnut!
Best, JR

yeah great idea

when i picked up my 4106gm from martinsville and drove it to austin texas(1200 miles)
the only problme was that the throttle kept sticking to full speed.
when the problem started it was pitch dark outside and i had no flashlight, and thus no clue where to look.
after the po came by and donated me his flashlight i was on the way in 5 minutes.
i posetd on this board and withing 15 minutes people started to call and tried to help.
it was amazing.
unfortunalty the rest of the trip went very smooth(=boring????)
leaving in 3 weeks for a summer long trip around the country.
can't wait to go

You bet, Bill! He posted thanks, but I doubt you are reading the MCI BusNut board.
Byron's got bugs in his starter now, or related components. He replaced the batteries...but that didn't fix it. He needed batteries anyway..had a melted post on one battery.
What he describes could be a solenoid, starter, or maybe wiring. He was whacking the starter and it would spin over normally. Probably worn brushes or a failing solenoid. No voltage drop at the starter, and the ground is in place.
I'm sure that he'll become a bonafide bus diagnostician soon. Or go broke. He does work at it and asks the right questions. Some things just don't have a concrete answer...
Better to have these problems at home though. This could have been a show-stopper on his trip home.
Best, JR
