Does anyone know of a safe/reliable setup for an automatic genset starting circuit? ie. when the batteries are low, the genset kicks in to either charge them or run a battery charger until charged up and then shut itself back off again?? I had seen a high-end conversion with this but never inquired as to how it is done. Thanks John |

This sort of thing is usually accomplished with an inverter with this feature such as a Trace SW4024. When the inverter senses the battery bank is low and the time is within the programmed allowable time (this feature prevents the genset from starting at 2am and disturbing your neighbors), the inverter causes the generator to start. Hope this helps. |

it wouldn't be too hard to make a switch gear that would turn it on.... you could use a "murphy" switch set to low voltage..... it would operate a solenoid that would start the genset.... and after a while, either a timer or a high voltage "murphy" switch could shut the genset down...and a manual override to run the genset whenever you wanted to.......... |

It was suggested to me to inhibit the Autostart. The reason was so you could control the time the genset will start up. If in a campground, there are restricted hours for gen set running and a genset starting up at 2:00AM might not make your neighbors real happy you are next to them. I thought about a timer to allow start-up at certain times but in the end, I think a convenient switch in the coach will suffice and give me the control I would need. cd |
