A friend of mine wants to do away with the 2 8d batteries in his Eagle and install 3 group 31's. I know this can be done because it was done in my Eagle. My question is, other than changing the wire and ends to fit accordingly, what else is there to do and going from 2 to 3 batteries, how are they connected to each other? I believe the Eagle is 12v is I remember correctly so nothing fancy there! I was going to call Dan who actually did mine but his number is over at the MAK board where I can't retrieve it at this time! Would the batteries be wired parallel or in series? A drawing would help in the description! Thanks Ace |

Positive to positive, and negative to negative is called parallel, not series. Wired in series would sum the voltage to 36 volts (if you have 3, 12 volt batteries). Wired in parallel, the voltage remains at 12 volts. |

I believe the 15's were factory equipped with 3 group 31's. They also used three disconnect switches which I think is a very good idea. Comes in handy for testing and you could easily isolate a bad battery on the road until a replacement was available. |

Batterys are definitely wired in Parallel as already mentioned. The Model 15's we ran had 2 disconnect switches.There were 3 Group 31 batterys.Hope this helps you. Sammy |

The main reason I ask is his batteries are located with one on each side of the bus. I can't tell how the are wired together without taking them and the wires out. I can do that but was thinking about making up the new ones for the 3 group 31's first. After I have them made up, then I would feel better about removing the old. Ace, Don't know about the Eagle but in my 4104, three group 31's will fit in the space of one 8D |

Len we are putting the 3 31"s in the RR corner of the Eagle. They fit perfectly and from memory, they are easy to maintain. Just swing open the light door and there they are! Yesterday, we made a trailer hitch for him and in the old A/C compartment we cut out all the things NOT needed. We then made a steel pan or floor and welded it in place over new 1x2 inch rectangle tubes that were used as braces to make room for additional storage. Next we went up front and welded in a piece of 2x3 angle on a cross brace used under the spare tire compartment that was slightly rusted, until the rains came. plans are to finish that up today and get on to the batteries! While you are at it, I would suggest some separation between the batteries in case they get hot. Maybe 3/4" to 1". No valid argument for this, just my gut. Len |

Well that is a good idea but since my Prevost has 4 batteries side by side with no separation, I made the frame similar to hold these 3 side by side! Besides, room in the RR corner of the Eagle is limited and I am at the max now! It is all shaping up as we go! Just finished welding the front cross brace and unhooked the 220 cord from the box before the inspector showed up. Whew, that was close but at least it's done! Now to get the final inspection on the building! Ace |
