i just cant figure them out!my manual does brake them down<but it gets confusing! 1970 gmc 4905 8v71 8va-168950 -7087-7517 |

Here goes- in order of numbers- 7:Series 71 V engine, 08: number of cylinders, 7: application designation- vehicle FF, 7 Basic engine arrangement and driveshaft rotation ( looking at flywheel end of engine )= flywheel counter clockwise, starter on left, oil cooler on right., 5: design variation- customer spec engine, 17: specific model number. This should be a right hand engine. |

thanks john now that sounds good very good now what was confusing me is that am i standing in front of the cooling fan looking at the fly wheel or am i standing looking (at) the flywheel in front of me,do u see where i was geting confused??so as it is right now if i am (at) the flywheel and of the motor in front of me my starter is on my right looking towards my fan! |
