I need to drive an 05 Eagle for a friend, from Indio CA. to San Antonio TX. After talking to a long haul truck driver, I don't mine telling you, he got me worried. He said that right after leaving Indio CA. I will be pulling pretty meaning hills on I-10 East to San Antonio TX. My Question is, is there a flatter rout from Indio CA to San Antonio TX. or am I worrying for noting? Thanks Pat |

You're worrying for nothing. Just don't lug the engine on the grades and enjoy the journey. (Read about shifting in the "Articles of Interest" section of this BBS.) FWIW & HTH. . .

I-10 east from Indio is up hill for 17 miles, it will slow you down. From Chiraco (sp) summit on to Desert Center there are some up and down grades but no problems. From Desert Center to Blythe it is mostly down hill. Blythe to Quartzite is up hill and will slow you down, but it is a short run. Some uphill grades from Phoenix to Toucson, but no problem. You cross the continential divide after you enter NM at 5000+ feet but it is just a long easy grade after that it is mostly down hill to SA, Tx. It is a nice run, have done it many times. I live just out of Indio (La Quinta, Ca.), we are now 100 plus every day your cooling system nust be purfect or you do it at night (Indio to Toucson before sunrise). Contact me if I can be of any help!! Dan W6LXB@aol.com |

I ran that route in December with our Eagle 01. Wasn't that bad on the hills, just slow. If it is hot do it at night as has been suggested. Watch temps and stop when you have to. Enjoy the trip, I did. Take extra water just in case. |

If you make it through El Paso before June 1st. (Friday) give a shout I'll still be here. Texas Canyon outside Tucson is spectacular, but not too big of a hill, everything else on in to S.A. is a breeze. Have fun! dg |
