neoplan owners I need help. 1990 cityliner I was chasing a starting problem thinking that the problem was electrical and tried as many things that you can think of turns out the problem was mechanical because the starter was not tight causing the bendix gear not to engage. replaced starter now starts great but the DON'T SHIFT LIGHT WILL NOT GO OUT THEREFORE not allowing it to go into gear. While chasing electrical problems attached wire 200r to a breaker causing breaker to trip also tripped the breaker in the center of the bus 6 th from the right. Now the in the circuit breakers #11 and #21 are tripping which are in the braking light system. all other breakers are holding. I have replaced all of the relays for the DDEC the no DDec codes are showing. I have replaced all of the relays in the center console one at a time to no avail. Any insight will be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance TVDAD |

Tom, If you have an ATEC tranny clearing the codes will likely solve the problem. Start the engine, hold the test switch to the trans position, (like reading codes), then push D,R,D,R,D,R and the codes will be cleared. Most of the time R will work so if you don't clear the codes you can go R then D and have normal shifting. Just clear the codes and the problem should be solved. If its not, after you have cleared the codes, and it still doesn't work, tell us what new codes you have. |

That would be the switch you hold into position to read/blink the codes. On my Eagle its on the dash. Red on top (engine, hold up and flash the engine codes), Yellow on bottom (transmission). Hold it in the trans position and do the DRDRDR deal and the codes are gone. Does it work ok if you go R and then D? If that doesn't help, call General Diesel and Electronics in Mn at 2182624553 they have helped me on numerous things and specialize on ATEC Electronics. |

Tom To clear codes an an ATEC computer you put the test switch in the postion to flash out codes and put the tranny in reverse. Leave it in reverse for a minute or so and the back to nuetral. The engine has to be running. You should have a test switch and lamp on the dash somewhere. If you can't find it just post again and we can tell you the wire numbers to connect to. Bill |

Neoplan did not, generally, install a "test switch." You need to find the diagnostic connector and jumper the test pin to the ground pin using test leads or a paper clip. Same goes for the DDEC. You may find it helpful to install switches for this purpose. Invest in a copy of the Detroit and Allison electronic controls diagnostic manuals for your products -- they will pay for themselves the first time you break down on the road. -Sean http://OurOdyssey.BlogSpot.com -Sean |
