I think this might be of interest to lots of you.

If you belong to any Yahoo Group- be aware that Yahoo is now using
"Web Beacons" to track the internet navigation of every Yahoo user.
It's similar to cookies, but allows Yahoo to record every website and
every group you visit- ANYWHERE - on the internet, even when you're
not connected to Yahoo.

To stop this privacy invasive surveillance, click here to go straight to the opt out page:

Yahoo has a very poor track record on protecting ones privacy. They ask far too much personal info before allowing you to use their forums.

I would like very much to use their GMC forum but it isn't worth it.

It's easy to sign into anything, and give false information instead
of using your real identity.... Including Yahoo Groups.

The "web beacons" are located in HTML encoded Email,
and on various web pages (HTML code). It's nothing new.

Keep in mind, that most commercial web site collect information
of it's visitors, such as browser information, IP address, the web
site you were at prior to your visit, and what link you used to leave
the site you are visiting.. It's no biggie.

Also keep in mind, that every place you use your credit card;
every time you make or receive a phone call; each time you
make a purchase using a "store member card", your actions,
purchases etc, is recorded and sent to a database.

Hasn't anyone wondered how your favorite supermarket knows
"how much you saved for the year", and indicates it on each receipt?

The "Yahoo" thing is nothing, compared to the amount of personal
information you lose daily, through very subtle systems.

On the web, never disclose more than you want the entire world
to know about. Anything you do, is out here for eternity!

Oh..... and if you think what you type or send goes directly from
your computer to the one you're typing or emailing to... think again.

Open a "command window" and type: tracert and a space, and
the web address of what you want to connect to. Like this:

tracert www.busnut.com

You'll see each computer your typing goes through, to go from
your machine to busnut.com. Each machine location is very
capable of recording and storing every bit of data.

All the Internet is, is a glorified "party-line" of years past.

Use a fictitious name, never reveal personal data, and don't
trust your security to anyone.

Most people don't realize just how vulnerable they are out here.

For a limited time, if you send me your Social Security number,
I'll send you some secret fixes for your security fears.

Thanks for the info. I think these things also slow down our computers.
On a side note. When I go to a website that asks for personal info. My name is John Doe, I live at 123 Jump St. Podunk IA. I am either 2 years old or 117. Ect. Some sites will catch some of this info as fictitous. Usually the city and zip code, so I Change to a city and zip I know. They will also catch phony area codes. so I use my area code and first three numbers and then make up the last 4. dOr you can give them the # of somebody you dont like or dial a prayer or some such thing.
One advantage to this type of survailance is I am known in the trade as a bottom feeder. When shopping on the web many sites have more than one price list that can be shown, high, medium or low. I always get the low list!!!!!

With windows, you should find the link for the command window
someplace in your programs menu, usually in the accessories folder..

But.... you can just type "command" in the "run" window.
start / run / [type in the word: command]

In the command window (it's like the old DOS), just type
tracert and the www address you'd like to see the path to.
