i WILL BE GOING TO BOULDER NV.EITHER AT THE END OF THIS WEEK OR NEXT WEEK TO GET MY BUS OUT OF STORAGE AND DRIVE IT TO PALM SPRINGS WHERE I WILL BE ABLE TO PARK IT AND WORK ON IT. MY QUESTION IS THE BATTERIES WILL BE DEAD SO I WILL HAVE TO JUMP START IT (IF POSSIBLE) OR BUY NEW BATTS, THEY WERE REPLACED JUST PRIOR TO PURCHASE 1 1/2 YEARS AGO. SO WONDERING WHAT TO DO. I WILL ALSO BE TAKING IT TO A SHOP FOR OIL CHANGE AND HAVE THE RACKS RUN PRIOR TO DRIVING TO PALM SPRINGS. I KNOW OF WILLIAMS DETROIT ARE THERE ANY OTHERS IN THE AREA THAT ARE AFFORDABLE ?? I HAVE FOUR 12 VOLT TROJAN BATTS THAT WAS HOPING WOULD DO THE JUMP SRART TRICK, AGAIN ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED. RANDALL, RJmule

I would just replace the start batteries with the Trojans. Hard to jump if the start batteries are stone cold dead. Two good 12 volts should start it if it is relatively warm.

Can you call ahead and have someone put a charger on it?

Good luck

Have the water levels checked before charging or jump starting. If the main switch was off ( battery disconnect ) you may only need to charge them a little to get going.

You could get or take along two heavy duty car batteries at say.. Walmart- make sure they are top post and put them in place of the bus batteries for now to get it running. Get the polarity and voltage right. If the coach ran OK before, it should start now with out too much trouble. Make sure the emergency shutdown works, or you have some means to shut it down if it would try to do a runaway. You can screw around with the original batteries when you get to your new location. After you get it running, and get it road ready, run it easy for 10 or 20 miles, and gradually start building the speed up as everything works ok. Too many people start a coach after it has set for an extended period, then start running full blast down the road to their destination. It isn't any wonder that so many have problems with broken rings, and all the other issues we see posted frequently.

series...

a jumper from one negative to the positive on the other battery.

Jumper cable from the separate positive on the first battery and the negative on the second battery.

(POS) 1 to Jumper Cable
(NEG ) 1 to (POS) 2
(NEG) 2 to Jumper Cable

+ to Jumper Cable (+24 volts ) to Coach Battery
+ & - jumper between batteries
- to Jumper Cable - chassis ground...

Note: If you have trouble with series and parallel circuits this simple you will have major headaches hooking up the solar system and it's batteries.
( Find someone to help you before letting the smoke out. )

The 8D term indicates the outside dimensions of the battery, not the voltage. The 8D is a 12 volt battery with 6 cells. Two 8Ds in series will give 24 volts. HTH

RJ Write the above info down and take a volt meter with you. If you do not have a volt meter, go buy one, you will need it eventually with a bus. Play with the meter at the batterys (wear safety glasses) You will quickly figure out what is what.
First try to start bus, you may be pleasently surprised. Mine has started after 6 months with no assist.

Randall
I think they are 6 volters each L 16 ? Put all four in series, hit the start button and you should hear sweet music.

RJ, check and see what voltage you trogans are as they could be 6 volt, the same type that they use in golf carts and if they are they are not ment to be used as start batteries but as deep cycle us not quick high am[erage drain that is required to tur a starter, if you have 2 batteries already in the bus just use the disconnect switch and the charge each battery seperatly one at a time, you will not need to seperate the battery cables just put the charger one one batteries posts at a time being sure tht you hook up the chargers + to the battery + terninal and after charging each battery for a couple hours each then they should start the bus
