Wow,

We spent 4 days in May in our coach parked at the end of a county road staying in our bus while we demolished an old building on my father inlaw's land. I do know I could see a rotating beacon and night just east of Shamrock on I-40 or close to it.

Wish I could help, but we won't be going back for a while.

David, it looks like it's about 1:45 east of Amarillo, TX. If you have to go youself, Southwest may be the best bet - but you may have to do the Southwest Shuffle because of rules on connecting in Dallas (Wright Amendment). I checked the Southwest web site, and you can't ticket through from PIT to Amarillo. The Southwest shuffle is buying a full roundtrip ticket between PIT and another airport, from which you can legally connect (in Dallas) to Amarillo (Birmingham, Little Rock, OKC, Austin etc.) Then you buy a separate roundtrip from there to Amarillo and back; check in over again, and pretend you're a brand new passenger. The changes to the Wright Amendment are gradually easing those rules on through-ticketing; but a quick look at the Southwest website indicates that PIT has not been addressed yet.

I live on another airline, only use Southwest if I really, really have to. However, when I'm in that boat, I look at the the originating airport and see how far I can get in the approximate direction, and what the fares, schedules, etc. are like. It's a hassle, but sometimes necessary. When we picked up our 4107, we flew American from DFW to Baltimore, transferred to Southwest to go to Manchester, NY.

You might look at American from PIT to Dallas Love Field (via Kansas City), then change to Southwest there. Be careful, Southwest makes its Amarillo flights out of Dallas Love, not the big airport (DFW) used by anyone else. Make sure you fly into Dallas Love.

I don't travel to the Texas Panhandle, so don't know if there's any other air service - but Southwest is normally the cheapest.

I will be going thru that area in a week or so. Call if you like and I would be glad to look it over for you. I will be in my service truck headed to Fargo to pick up a Megaliner for a guy in Austin. God I dread that trip. Looking at a bus for you would give me something to look forward to. :-)
