I am throwing in the towel on the problems I've been having with low power, excessive heat, and black smoke (see thread of same name, below). I think I have gone as far as I can go without taking major parts off the engine. We are a day out of Las Vegas (actually, Henderson), Nevada, and I'd like to have a shop look at this on Monday. I am seeking recommendations for a good diesel shop or mechanic, familiar with two-stroke Detroits and DDEC-II, in the Las Vegas or Henderson area. Post here or email me off-board. Thanks! -Sean http://OurOdyssey.BlogSpot.com |

Hi Sean, I don't know if it's too "commercial" for you but I found the folks at busforsale.com pretty easy going and knowledgeable. Talk to Hilary. If they don't do service work on site, they may be able to send you to someone who does. 615-859-1998 Say hi from me! Ian www.busnut.com |

Ian, Thanks for the info, but they appear to be in Tennessee. I'm going to try to have this looked at here in Las Vegas first (although I suppose it's possible I'll still be grappling with this when I roll in to Nashville!) -Sean |

Sean, We had really good luck with Williams SW in Vegas. We had a bad fuel problem that they fixed and didn't charge for nearly as many hours as they put in. Nice experience. Jim Stacy |

Sean, Posted a link on your private email to a guy you may want to try; Gary Bennett, 4350 S. Arville St. #6 Las Vegas, Nevada, 89103 phone 702 873 4415 fax 702 362 8699 Not that Gary would do the repair, but he converts Eagles and other brands. Last time I was in his shop he had several older "bus motors" around and should know who in Vegas would do a good job. Russ |

Thanks, everyone. I'm going to start at Williams. We've been to their shops in Arizona before, and I know they have the diagnostic tools needed. Feightliner is a good option, but their rate sounds just as high as Williams, so might as well start right out with the authorized Detroit distributor. I do know the Bennetts, as we solicited B&B Coach to bid on the Odyssey project. If we don't make progress at Williams, I may give Gary a call. -Sean http://OurOdyssey.BlogSpot.com |

Sean, Did I pass you Southbound on 95 North of Lost Wages Sunday morning? I was in my pickup, so you wouldn't have noticed me. George |

George, It's possible -- we did come down 95 into Vegas on Sunday. But it was more likely in the afternoon -- we didn't leave Tonopah until late in the morning. We probably rolled into town around 3 or so. -Sean http://OurOdyssey.BlogSpot.com |
