Hi folks, Recently, and with more and more frequency, there have been dozens of people who have tried to self-register using the regular registration utility on this bbs only to have the automatic features fail to work properly. I'm seeing and attempting to respond to a number of people who have suffered these failures. I'm not exactly sure where the problem with those good folks who are getting frustrated by the failed system is, because I go to the bbs for each person's registration failure and try a "dummy" registration and it succeeds, always. The problem, I think, may have something to do with ISP's who are introducing ever more sophisticated spam removal tools in their mailto programmes. These tools may be seeing my server's automatic email containing a username's password and think it's spam, therefore killing it before it even gets to the registrant's email folder. At least that may be part of it. To attempt to resolve this fail condition, I have opted to use a different self-registration technique. It's still self-registration and it's still automatic, but your registration request will now go into a queue which I will now personally approve. When the automatic email has been sent to you, it will immediately allow you to start posting rather than having to respond to email prompts. For now, at least, let's see how that works and I'll get back to you if I need to change it again. For those of you who have tried to register, have failed, then emailed me to correct the condition, I'll catch up to all of you by the end of this weekend by emailing a password to you, as I have done for the dozens before you. I'm a little behind on my email, so please be patient. Thanks folks. Enjoy :~) Ian www.busnut.com |
