I just started out on my journey north, and my bus won't idle slow... it run a high idle (no tach but I'd guess 1,200 to 1,400 not full race but definately high) in Park or N, [Edit 8/11... where the heqq is Park????] but in gear slows down somewhat. I'll see what happens when I start it cold in the morning. I may not have internet tomorrow, so see my profile for my cell number. Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks dg (Message edited by Texasborderdude on August 11, 2007) |

Could the high idle valve be stuck open causing to run on high idle? Switch malfunction? Skinner valve faulty? Just some thoughts. Paul |

Doyle, Some more information would be helpful! We need to know whether your engine is a mechanical injected, or a DDEC. A mechanical engine could have sticking throttle linkage between the front and rear, a leaking high idle solenoid valve, NOT the Skinner valve, as that would cause low power, or a shutdown. Also a possibility of an injector sticking near the no fuel position. Do you have an air throttle? Possibility of the engine cylinder sticking. Possibility of the front regulator leaking. DDEC: Bad throttle position sensor, or the treadle has something stuck under the bottom pivot. If you are mech injected, go back and push and pull on the throttle linkage at the engine, make sure the return spring is 1. there, 2. connected, 3. linkage moves easily. HTH, George |

Yeah, I remembered I didn't give and specifics about my 8V71N... I nursed it to Dallas. I have to put it in N when brakeing, or it takes much more brakes to stop. I'm pulling a big trailer (almost 10,000 lbs) and my little 318 horses are barely enough. I do suspect throttle linkage, etc. etc. Anyone know a good 2 stoke mechanic in the Dallas area? I've got a laundry list of stuff to tackle. Internet at my $42.00 per day RV park is real unreliable too! Oh well, they did send some around within 20 minutes of check-in to be sure I didn't park on the grass! dg |

When you need a helping hand, look at the end of your arm! As soon as I got off the road, and it cooled down to ambient (only 100!)... I poked into the engine bay, and found a broken, disconnected return spring. Went to the local hardware store and got an assortment of springs and wire-tied a couple. Seems to be a good temp fix. I was able to get up IH-34W to refuel and back to another RV park across the street (only $150 a week vs. $42 a day... and there's a little shade here. The manager even does RV repairs so I'll camp here for a few days, have the rear AC replaced and a new AC installed on my trailer.... get the trailer brake controller wired and catch up my website. Thanks to all for help and suggestions. dg |
