Can anyone give me an idea where the oil sending unit is located on an 8V71? I think it is either going bad or the wire connecting to it is shorting. No problems with oil or engine and all is fine there, but the oil pressure needle "twitches" ever so slightly, and it is bothering me. I checked the connections on the back of the gauge and they seem OK (cleaned them, etc). I thought I would check on the sending unit next and the wiring before I invest in a new gauge.

Also, what should be a "good rule of thumb" oil pressure. Ours stays pretty consistently around the 50 lb mark, occassionally up around 52. What "range" is acceptable. I realize that it may change some with loads, etc.

After trying to fix my oil press. gauge many times without success,(suspecting a chaffed wire somewhere), I ran a 1/8" in. tube from where the sending unit was all the way to the dash to a mechanical gauge. Works great and is accurate.

I had the same thing on my 671. I slightly squeezed the wire clip going to the sender terminal with pliers and that was the end of it.
