Huh? "Need some real life Ya's AND Na's since this is the forum of "The Best and Brightest". " (man, I'd like to be smoking whatever he's smoking) The Good Sam magazine is about the only thing I pay the dues for. I had to call 'em and tell 'em to stop spamming my USPS box, though. The junk they try to sell you, like pseudo-cellphones, insurance, etc., is a real bore. But..... Inside their rag are topics of interest to all campers, regardless if you own a bus conversion, or 8' pop-up. They covered in great depth, every towed vehicle brake assist device available in this country..... They provided extensive documentation regarding what vehicle can be towed "4-down", and referenced the manufacturers involved... They also had a great column citing camping and campground concerns for "oversized" RVs, bus conversions included. Sooooo, yeah.... for the meager few bucks, the mag's a decent deal, neatly delivered to the box every month... (say... did I tell you about the Good Sam swimsuit issue?) |

John: Wuz there a consensus re:"They also had a great column citing camping and campground concerns for "oversized" RVs, bus conversions included." My Eagle and trailer are definitely finding some "push-back"... with one (to be nameless) park in the Dallas area charging me $42.00 per night. dg |

I use the Emergency Road Service ryder on my insurance policy $4.00 a year. The drawbacks are there is no 800 number to call, and you pay upfront and get reimbursed by the insurance co. Since 1999 I have had 1 service call!! The insurance co provides the same things the expensive ones do, hotel for 3 nites, lockout, ect. |

I intend to keep mine until I hear any bad stories. I've never had to use them, lucky on my breakdowns, but have heard nothing but good about them. The cost is really nothing compared to the cost of even one roadside service call. |

I'm new to my membership but I like it. I am also planning to use their insurance unless I come up with a better deal. One of the things I read that I liked about Good Sam insurance is that you can cancel it for part of the year if you won't be going anywhere. |

What are you referring to? The Club or the ERS? |

Doug, As Laryn stated, are you referring to the Club or the ERS? I agree with John they have two very good mags, "Trailer Life" and "Motorhome". I took both for years when running commercial RV's. I belong to Good Sam, FMCA, and Escapees since each give me something the others do not. John, What issue had the article on "oversized" RV's? Was it in "Motorhome"? |

Good grief, Doug... It was awhile back... maybe 5-6 years? It would have had to have been in the Good Sam "Highways" mag, though. That's the only one we've been getting for the last 10 or so years... They told of the difficulties of the smaller, older parks with the newer 102" wide widths, the slide-outs, and the 40+' lengths. We usually look for the older RV parks with foliage and privacy, and it's those that weren't designed for "big rigs".. Two Florida parks (one state, one private) tried to turn us away when we had our 37' Georgie-Boy. I swore to 'em that it was a 33' RV and just looked longer. No problem parking, but it did hang out a bit... |

Doug the road side assist. is a great to have as the others have said and is cheap even if you never have to us it. it is the old story that if you have it you may never need it but when you do not have it then is when you wish that your had it and it is by far the best we have tried and we have never had to pay up front for a service call or wait a long time for the repair truck and they have always sent the right truck even for the buswhich needed to be carried to the repair shop. yes i am very pleased with Good Sam but not with AAA |

Thanks All, I was refering to the ERS. I agree that it's a bummer when something brakes and you don't have the coverage, and it is pretty reasonable I think I'll get the Good Sam coverage again. I got the Best and Brightest thing from one of the local talk show guys here in Boston.Thank you all again for your insights. |

Good Sam ERS is a keeper in my book! The V12 had a V8 blower drive coupling which started to come apart, and tore up the cover, which threw oil all over everywhere. We got into a motel in Placerville, and called them. Unfortunately, their local operator didn't have a large enough tow truck, so they asked me if I had yellow pages available. I was able to find a large tow truck close by, who would only take cash, and Good Sam's check was there when we got home! |
