Hey Guys: I am thinking here, (which in itself is a mistake), about insulating the ceiling of the bays (which of course is the floor of the bus). I am making the assumption that this will be of benefit. I have some 1" thick foam insul board that has a plastic covering on it. Is it beneficial to insulate the bay ceiling, and if so what is the best material to use? Any thots and suggestions would be helpful. |

Iffin' ya'got the cash, time and desire, insulation is always a "good thing". Heat rises; cold drops, and the temperature inside the bays is doing what to mess up yer comfort? |

My PO traveled often to Denver and such, and he installed commercial carpet covered plywood partitions between the bays and the bay doors. There are latched to remove the "inner" panels to allow access to the bays. I guess the idea was to reduce the air infiltration from the bay doors. There is/was no insulation added to the top of the bottom of the bays. There are four hydronic heat coils off the Webasto loop to heat the bays. He also added a (4) zone temperature sensors with a remote readout w/alarm. I have not needed to utilize, as I normally head south in the winter months. My skiing days are long over as well. Hope this helps, I can post pics if desired. Gary |

I can't imagine a way of keeping the cold air out of the bay areas other than warming them as stated above..but I used Reflectex under the sub floor before putting down my hardwood floor in the bus. It not only made for warmer floors but reduced the road noise substantially. Bay doors all leak to a point when traveling so we try to stay out of the colder parts of the country in the winter. Bob |

I would worry more about insulating the floor and doors....and then if you have bay seals in good condition you will have much better insulation performance with the dead air space that you will creat. I insulated the systems bay doors on my 04 and the ambient heat from combustion of my Webasto would keep it above freezing easily in sub freezing temps. ( not ducted into the compartment.) |
